Marriage

I've been thinking a lot about marriage lately. Don't worry, I don't want to get married anytime soon, but it seems that marriage has been a topic that has come up quite often in many conversations. So I've had a few questions about it...

1) How old do you have to be to get married?
Everybody seems to have a different idea about this one. I've always thought that you should be at least 21, but here at BYU there are so many people who are so young and getting married. 18 and 19 are common ages, and while I mostly feel that this is way too young, sometimes it works out perfectly. So the conclusion that I have come to is that that proper age for marriage depends on the person.

2) How long should you know each other before you decide to get married?
Everyone out here has no clue that this one is most definitely at least six months. But again, I had my perspective changed oh so lovingly when Andrea Ellsworth told me that she and her husband were engaged after 2 months. 5 amazing kids later, they are one of the happiest couples I know. So I am not sure how I am feeling about this one...

3) Who are you supposed to marry?
I'm still looking...

For Sunday school, I go to Marriage and Family Relations (this started when the other classes were all full...) and we have pretty much the coolest teacher ever. Brother Longmore taught us the most amazing

Relationship Attachment Model

Know Trust Rely Commit Love

This is our relationship "equalizer". You have to know someone before you can trust them (and know is not talk til 3 am the first time you go out, and talk on the phone every night for 2 weeks), you have to trust someone before you can rely on them, you have to rely on them before you can commit to them, and you have to be committed before you can touch. Great, huh?

Yeah, so that is about it. Pretty random, but that's how my mind works anyways. :)

  1. 1. How old? You should both be 25 or older. The main reason for this is because then you can rent a car (say for a honeymoon) with out having to pay the underage fee. This is VERY important. The second reason for this is because being single can be SO MUCH FUN that you should have at least til 25 to enjoy it!!!

    2. How long should you know each other? You should know each other a year. This gives you 12 months and 4 seasons in which to see just who he is. You really should experience each other in all 4 seasons. And you should go on a road trip together - this brings out people's true colors.

    3. Who should you marry? Someone who listens and someon who talks. When you are young, you'll want him to listen to you, when you are old, you'll want someone to talk with. :) Oh, and he must be near perfect else why would you even be considering him?
