Quote-ables

"I can listen no longer in silence. I must speak to you by such means as are within my reach. You pierce my soul. I am half in agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone forever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own, than when you broke it eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant."
~Captain Wentworth's letter to Anne Elliot
Persuasion, Jane Austen

This is my favorite line from my favorite Jane Austen.
Just thought I'd share.

  1. *Swoon* what a great passage! (That is one of my FAVORITE Austin books!)

  2. Took the words right outta my mouth. I don't understand why this is a *lesser known* Austen work. It's my favorite one. Hands down. :)

  3. Man, I hate to say it, but I would totally have given up waaaaay before then. I love reading things like this, love the romance and the great epicness of the relationship that FINALLY gets together... The work and tears and pain and struggling make it feel so much more worthwhile.

But I'm weak, and I haven't felt anything so intense that it awakens these feelings in me.

  4. It is a shame they don't make men like that. sigh.
