Yesterday, my roommate was laying on my bedroom floor reading a book.
She came across a whole bunch of nursery rhymes and was excited, because apparently she wasn't familiar with any of them.
I was shocked.
Flabbergasted.
I thought everyone knew all the nursery rhymes!
She was amazed that I could recite all the ones she named.
Is this surprising to anyone else?
Please tell me that you know all those rhymes.
I have no idea where I learned them all.
They've just always been floating around in my head.
My favorites are Goldilocks
Goldilocks, Goldilocks, wilt thou be mine? Thou shalt not wash dishes, nor yet feed the swine, But sit on a cushion and sew a fine seam, And feed upon strawberries, sugar, and cream.
and How Many Miles to Babylon?
How many miles to Babylon? Three-score and ten. Can I get there by candle-light? Yes, there and back again. If your heels are nimble and light, You will get there by candle-light.
I love nursery rhymes.
They're so fun to say and so traditional.
I love traditional things.
What are your favorite rhymes?

I know some nursery rhymes, but they're the more common ones, and usually ones that have songs to them (they're easier to remember). Like the "Sing a song of sixpence" one. I've never heard the goldilocks or babylon ones! how funny. also, I know what you mean about people not knowing these things, I was trying to recite Polly put the Kettle on for Megan a few weeks ago, and she had NO idea what I was talking about.
ReplyDeleteI like when you blog.
ReplyDeleteI like when you blog too.
ReplyDeleteI also love nursery rhymes. I distinctly remember the mother goose book we had when we were little.
Now, I have 3 Versions of Mother Goose books for Eve and it has been so fun to remember all those great rhymes and also learn others. (Just wait til you have kiddies that start to repeat them with you!! So great!!)
Josie has a couple books of all the old traditional ones with the original words. I must admit, some of them I had never read the WHOLE thing. Gotta say, some of them are cute but a bunch are totally wack, haha.
ReplyDeleteI know quite a few nursery rhymes, but I haven't even heard of those.
ReplyDeleteHow about A Was an Apple Pie?
hello, I'm having some problems in translating something I guess it's a nursery rhyme. It's an extract from the tim winton novel "cloudstreet"and I have to translate it into italian for my dissertation:
ReplyDelete"the knife never tells a fib, but it can make a bib for a squib".
Could you help me, please?!?!
Tanks a lot!
Nina.
I can't find a right translation for "make a bib for a squib"
