A Sobbing Mess

Last night I watched the second half of Titanic with Tiff and Ash (we watched the first a few days ago). This was the first time I'd ever seen it (surprise, I know!) and I sobbed for a good chunk of time after. And I've broken down twice today already, and it's not even noon! What is wrong with me? I can't watch sad movies. Seriously.

I could say something profound about it, but I'm still caught up in the miserableness of imagining having to let go of your dead lover's hand to let him sink down into the depths of the ocean.

urg...here I go again with the crying.

Be Still My Heart, I'm Hardly Breathing!

Last night when I came home, Tiffany was watching Penelope. For those of you who have seen Penelope, you know the charm that is James McAvoy.

(Mom, you would really like Penelope. We'll watch it when I come home.)

Anyways, here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

And my favorite video clip from Becoming Jane.

I gasp with happiness every time. You know. Guys with the best hair that I've ever seen can do that to me.

Would You Erase Me?

Sean mentioned it and got me thinking again.

Quick run down, Joel loves Clementine. Clementine loves Joel. The relationship runs its course and ends badly. So Clementine has a procedure that erases Joel from her memory. Joel gets mad and has the same procedure.

I'm not going to ruin the rest of the movie for you (my LDS friends, it is so worth getting edited), but I want to think about it for a bit longer.

Would you erase someone?

I've been pondering this. Is there someone out there that just hurt you too badly? That you still feel overwhelming sadness and regret when they cross your mind? Do you want to keep those memories? Or forget them forever?

I've decided that I want those memories. They are a part of who I am. I never want to forget, even if it hurts. Because I learned so much about relationships, about who I am, and about what I want from life. We're supposed to learn and grow. How could I learn and grow without the hard stuff, as well as with the good?

What do you think?

X: X-Files

Post Edit: I'm not gonna lie. This post was the biggest mistake of my life. Seriously. Seriously?! I can't believe that even after talking about them for a whole year, I did not make this about my beloved X-Files. Thank you Kenzie, for bringing me to this realization. X is for X-Files. Now on to the original post.

I have nothing for x. Because, let's face it, the only words that start with x are things like x-ray and xylophone. And neither of those are very inspirational. So I went to Flickr and searched around for x's. And that was when I came up with this:

Duh. X-Men.

But I haven't actually seen any of the X-Men movies. (Check out that vein on his arm! Sorry...I get distracted by big muscles.)
Are they any good?

D: Disney

If there's anything that does it for me, it's Disney. They are brilliant! I get chills every time I watch Ariel sing her reprise on the rock. I cry my eyes out every time John Smith goes back to England and leaves Pocahontas. I laugh hysterically every time Jane says, "And, Daddy, he took my boot!" (I can imitate her quite well.) Every word that comes out of Meg's mouth is witty and funny. And I would marry the Beast for that library (and he happens to be my favorite prince. Yes, even with his long-ish hair. I think it is the magical transformation and the light that shoots out of his fingers and toes that makes me love him so much.) I have the Finding Nemo soundtrack and can play it on the piano. It reminded me that I need to go to the Great Barrier Reef.

Ahhh Disney. And here they are, about to do it again.

The Princess & the Frog

Rapunzel

The Bear & the Bow

(For which Google has no image.)

So get ready. Here they go again.

Two Things

1. I stayed up late watching Rebel Without a Cause instead of writing my talk for tomorrow. And it was good. Because I love love love James Dean.
I know. Smoking is gross. But he still looks cute with that hat.

B. The only reason I would ever cut my hair would be so I could wear a hat. Because they are cute. But we all know that people with long, curly hair should run in the other direction.

Hmmm....

Devestation

I am depressed. So so depressed. Because Kings was cancelled. The one good show that they put on in forever. I mean, I love my 30 Rock, Grey's, and all the other ones, like Samantha Who? (cancelled) and Brothers and Sisters. But Kings was so so good. It was David and Saul. Yep, from the Bible. Only in a modern kingdom. And it was incredible. I dare you to watch it. Or, you can choose to not get depressed by getting hooked and only having like 12 episodes to watch. But you would be missing out. Promise.

And since I am not going to have a whole post just dedicated to t.v. (no, X-Files did not count. It was on dvd), I am going to include a movie. About me. Or my life goals. Guess what it is? Oh, that was too easy. Yes, it is Australia. Please don't give away the ending. I am in the middle of enjoying this epic adventure (hey, it's super long. Like 3 hours 45 minutes. For reals.) Oh Baz Lurmann, you know how to tug my heartstrings.

Also, I am very tan. I have great tan lines. I can't wait to show you.

Random Thoughts

I watched Support Your Local Sheriff last night and it was awesome. Oh how I love that movie. Obviously.

There is an adorable new missionary in Singles ward. Completely awesome and completely unattainable for the next few months. But at least my brother is the new Ward Mission Leader. Woot! When this kid heads back to Provo, BAM!!! Done son.

I love the new NBC show Kings. It fascinates me. I find myself drawn more and more to government type things. Oh, and I saw this guy again today that works for Military Intelligence. Nothing bothers me more than knowing that he knows exciting secrets that I don't. Because he told me today, "I could lie and tell you that I don't know anything exciting, but that would be a lie." Grrrrr....

I ran over a armadillo last night. I tried to stop for him, but then he ran under the tire that I swerved. I heard it and felt sick. And then I started driving again (there were cars behind me). And he was dragging under the front end. It was awful. He finally let go with a clunk and when I looked in the rear view mirror, he unrolled himself and walked off. For reals. Just like a cartoon. Those darn animals are indestructible. Impressive. I wish I was like that.

This is what should have happened.

But this is what really happened.

Movie Characters

This week, I am going to tell you about my favorite books and who I think should play the main characters.

Today is A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. My favorite part is that they really are making a movie of this one, but they are in pre-production right now. I think it's due out in 2010 and I am excited.

So, for the cast:

Gemma Doyle

Ever since I saw the movie Perfume, I have only imagined Rachel Hurd-Wood as Gemma. Remember Peter Pan? She played Wendy. I think she's perfect.

Felicity Worthington

Daniel Deronda did it for me. I saw Romola Garai in Atonement, but it never crossed my mind that she fit period films so well.

Pippa Cross
Emmy Rossum is perfect I think.

Ann Bradshaw

I loved Felicity Jones in Northanger Abbey. I think she would be lovely.

Rockstar and Sweet Tea

Am I too old for Hannah Montana? Yes.
Is it trendy to hate Hannah Montana? Yes.
Did I still see the movie anyways? Yes.
Because do I care? Nope.

And I am proud to say that I loved it. Mostly, it just reaffirmed my dream to raise my family in Tennessee. Southern ground, sweet accents, pecan pie, cowboys...I could go on and on. Yup, I'm there. And if the view from your grandparents' back porch looked like this, would you go too?

Batman

I went to see The Dark Knight last night, and I must admit, I was a bit disappointed. Everyone had told me that it was so wonderful and I would love it (except for Dawna, who I simply must learn to listen to a bit more...), but it was not my kind of a movie. I was up late trying to figure out exactly why I didn't like it, and I came up with these 3 reasons:

1) It was too realistic.
I know what you're thinking. Batman is not realistic. But I don't mean it in a superhero sense, I mean that it takes place way too close to the regular world. Most movies happen on a totally different plane. There are two crazy and fantastic organizations, and the good one must stop the bad one from executing their evil scheme that will destroy the world. Most of these movies do not take place in the every day world. I think I was frightened, not necessarily by the joker, but by the situations that we taking place too close to an ordinary level. Does that make sense? Ask me a specific question if it doesn't and I will try to clarify.

2) Chaos
I have to have organization. From the very first moment I saw the Joker, I knew that he didn't have a motive, and that frightened me more than any monster on any scary movie ever could. He even gives a little speech about how he is the agent of chaos, and that was honestly the darkest thing I had ever heard. In Isaiah 27:1, Isaiah speaks of a leviathan that represents the forces of chaos that opposed the Creator. I remember the feeling I got the first time I read that scripture, and it was a moment of fear, and then utter relief that there is something stronger than chaos.

3) Too many climaxes
There were about 3 different times when I thought they should have started wrapping up the movie. Reminiscent of Transformers, it kept going and going, and you start getting tired, and having more than one climax is obnoxious, but you can sometimes make 2 work.

So that's my opinion. Feel free to disagree, I really don't mind.

Saturday, November 15

I like movies. I don't watch too many, but when I do, I love them. But I get tired of them very easily, so I can only watch a movie once in a while or I will get bored and start to not like it. But here are my Top 10 Best Movies of All Time*
