In Which I Discover the Thrill of Vinyl and Vintage Cowboy Boots

.credit

This past Saturday was adventurous. Someone Nice took me to the cool places in Salt Lake City. And I immediately fell in love with a record store. My mom has always has tons of vinyl, but nothing to play them on for a while now. But she still made sure that I was familiar with the good music (you know, The Grass Roots, Skeeter Davis, Pat Benatar, etc.) and so walking into that second record store and seeing all those records was amazing! Then, just imagine that She & Him, Regina Spektor, Andrew Bird, and Bon Iver all have their albums on vinyl, too! I thought I had died and gone to heaven. There is just something amazing about records.

Moving on to Decades. The most amazing vintage store where I picked up the cutest pair of cowboy boots. Just my size. Already worn in and deliciously scuffed up. I'm obsessed with them. I've worn them everyday since and I just keep staring at my feet and walking on wood floors as much as possible. Bliss.

After Decades, we went to the library. 5 floors of perfection. Glass elevators. A book sale as big as the library back home. And a roof garden. Now don't get me wrong, Provo library is still my favorite (because I'm a sucker for an old building) but the Salt Lake Library is pretty darn awesome.

So Salt Lake won me over. Fanks, Landon.

Begin Learning a Foreign Language

Thank goodness I didn't say, Become fluent in a foreign language. I can check this off of my list of things to do, because Spring term started yesterday and I'm signed up for a 2 hour Spanish class every day at 8:00 am. And it's good. I can count to 100. And I can tell you my telephone number. And I can greet you and tell you how I'm feeling. And I can say a prayer (because I'm at BYU and we always say lots of prayers here. What? It's a Church school.) The point is, it's only just begun, but I have a good feeling about this semester.

Less to Say, More to Do

Long over due for some blogger-y stuffs, I've come to realize that I don't have as much to say... Maybe it's because I have some more friends these days (although, I've just been left by 3 of the more important ones, and more are leaving later this week), maybe it's because I've been working more. Maybe it's because I've been occupied with something that I will maybe tell you about some day soonish or not at all. The point is, I've been living life instead of just talking about it all the time. Which is nice. So I'll spend the next few posts telling you about all the awesome stuffs I've been up to. It should be fun. For me, that is.

Also, Spring is here. But it snowed today. And it's gonna snow tomorrow. So this picture is so appropriate.

Embarrassing Moment of the Day

My friend Justin and I rode our bikes to Diego's for a much needed finals break. I got some cinnamon-y horchata. And then I proceeded to somehow toss my glass up into the air. Horchata in my hair, on the table and floor, on my cell phone, and a thoroughly soaked sweater and jeans. I know, I'm pretty classy. But it looked pretty awesome as it was flying up into the air. Now I've washed off the sticky, but I keep giggling when I smell my cinnamon hands. Yum.

Worms

It rained a lot last night (and snowed a little this morning). As a result, there were worms all over the sidewalk. I felt the need to pick up the wiggly ones and put them back in the grass. I saved about 50 worm lives today on the way home from school.

What life changing thing have you done with your day?

The Mysterious Scratch

Monday morning, I woke up with a scratch on my head. Can you see that sucker? That picture was taken yesterday (ignore the hair). Anyways, the point is that I have no idea where it came from. There is a mysterious invisible cat or something wandering around the house. And he comes out when I lay down on my bed. Because a new, smaller scratch appeared on my cheek after I took a nap yesterday. Weird!

I also feel funny because I almost never post pictures of myself on here. I just realized that. But that's me! (In case you were wondering or something.)

You know you want one

I love comics. I love vintage. So it only makes sense that I would love a vintage comic poster. Michael Myers is my new hero!

A Sobbing Mess

Last night I watched the second half of Titanic with Tiff and Ash (we watched the first a few days ago). This was the first time I'd ever seen it (surprise, I know!) and I sobbed for a good chunk of time after. And I've broken down twice today already, and it's not even noon! What is wrong with me? I can't watch sad movies. Seriously.

I could say something profound about it, but I'm still caught up in the miserableness of imagining having to let go of your dead lover's hand to let him sink down into the depths of the ocean.

urg...here I go again with the crying.

A Whole Piece of Pie? Yes, please!

Last night I went with some friends to Sammy's Burgers and Fries. It's this little hole in the wall in Provo near Center Street and I love it. It was Two for Tuesday, so we got two milkshakes for the price of one. Guys, they stuck a whole piece of raspberry cheesecake in mine. And a whole coconut cupcake in Jessica's. It was awesome. So many flavors. I hear their sweet potato fries with caramel are also awesome. They have a dark blue wall with a silver tree painted on, a wall of polaroids, and a t-shirt with that tree that says, "My cupcake shakes bring all the boys running to the yard." Awesome, I know. I'll be going back for the key lime pie milkshake. And the pumpkin cheesecake. But not until next Tuesday.

Toms? No. Better.

So I have this friend who is a little entrepreneur. He's starting a shoe business this summer. Think, Toms. (You know, the Argentine Alpargata shoes that farmers have been wearing for years.) They're fun and summery. Anyways, they have this little survey going to try and decide what colors to start with and stuff. Go here to take the survey and they'll give you $5.00 off your first purchase! I know, pretty awesome.

p.s. Please choose the red and/or natural shoes. Because they're only starting off with a few colors, grey and black being the most popular so far, neither of which I am interested in buying. (But I will, Blake, if that is all you have. Because I support you.)

General Conference

Go watch it (here). It's awesome. I promise that you'll love it and come away happier and a better person.

General Conference is when the leaders of our church speak to us. I love it. There's beautiful music, incredible quotations, inspiring stories, and revelation from heaven. This is not to be missed. Here's some highlights from last years conference. Enjoy!

Superhero AND Detective!

I don't know if I've ever told you, but I love this man.

Really. Like, he's right up there with Johnny Depp. Maybe even higher. I just appreciate his acting and his rugged good looks. Sherlock Holmes? Lurve. Ironman? Lurve. I know he's a little bit older (only six years younger than my parents...) Who cares? Not me. I love him. And I'm excited to see how he defeats Professor Moriarty.
