Let's wrap this up! Good-bye A-Z Series! You were fun, but I am done with you. I don't like things cramping my style and having to do the alphabet in order was too compartmentalized for me. But it was good for me. And it's going out with a bang! Good ol' Zooey. I think she is the most featured person on here. I can't help it!

X: X-Files

Post Edit: I'm not gonna lie. This post was the biggest mistake of my life. Seriously. Seriously?! I can't believe that even after talking about them for a whole year, I did not make this about my beloved X-Files. Thank you Kenzie, for bringing me to this realization. X is for X-Files. Now on to the original post.


I have nothing for x. Because, let's face it, the only words that start with x are things like x-ray and xylophone. And neither of those are very inspirational. So I went to Flickr and searched around for x's. And that was when I came up with this:


Duh. X-Men.

But I haven't actually seen any of the X-Men movies. (Check out that vein on his arm! Sorry...I get distracted by big muscles.)

W: Wales

W: Whale Watching

Whale watching is on my bucket list. Whales are really big and slightly scary, but I am fascinated by them nonetheless. This one thinks he's a ballerina. Which I am totally fine with. Take all the magic of the ocean and mix in a creature that sings (!!) and has mysterious physique. I want one. Do you think they're friendly? Or am I too tiny to pay much attention to? Like a hamster? Hmmmm...

V: Vintage

Lots of blogging, I know. But I'm a tiny bit bored..credit


I love all things vintage. If someone adds in that touch of old then I'm hooked. Which is a good explanation for my strange obsessions like Katy Perry's music video, Zooey Deschanel's cotton commercials, antique stores, and red lipstick. And anyone who feeds these addictions I automatically love. Cue Clay {who will spend hours with my in The Man in the Moon on Center Street}, Kenzie {who looks incredible in red lipstick}, Tiffany {who encourages me in all of this} and those little white gloves that are sitting on my bookshelf, waiting for the right event.

Can we please go back to a prettier time? One where we dressed up a little more? Where the cars were so much better? And where there were drive in movies? I'm just sayin.

V: Violins

Three more days in 2009! I better finish this up...

I have always wanted to play the violin, but I have never done anything about it. Except enjoy the music that others produce for me. Here are two of my favorites, Lucia Micarelli and Mairead Nesbitt.

U: Umbrellas

I really like umbrellas. I'm just saying. There's something kind of awesome about them. I once read from some guy in the early 1900s telling his son to always carry an umbrella when it looked like rain so he could take care of the woman he was accompanying. I don't know where I read that, but it was cute and I want men today to do the same. Just a thought.

T: Travel

We all know that I want to travel. Ever since I learned about the world and all the incredible things it holds, I've wanted nothing more than to see it all. Although I one day want to see it all, there are a few places that are calling me a bit more strongly than the others.

1. Australia
Obviously. I don't know when this obsession started. It might have been the first time I saw some science documentary about the Great Barrier Reef. It might have been when I saw Support Your Local Sheriff, or when I first heard an accent. Anyhow, my love has only increased with things like Baz Luhrmann's epic movie, Lisa Mitchell, and Finding Nemo. Oh, and can you say Koalas?

2. Great Britain
Ever since I read The Grey King by Susan Cooper, I've wanted to go to Wales. King Arthur has done nothing but make me want to haunt Cornwall, Orkney, etc. And Tamsin made me want to move to a farm house in the middle of nowhere. Sigh.

3. Italy
Is there anything more magical than Venice? A city built on water? I don't care that it smells bad. And all the history! Fascinating!

4. Greece
The clean white walls and clear water is calling my name.

5. New Zealand
Lord of the Rings made me want this one.

6. Norway
The North has always called my name. Fjords, East of the Sun, West of the Moon setting, the Northern Lights. Yes, please.

7. Portugal, Spain, France
They are all grouped together because I just want to go. Nothing specific, just the romance.

8. Peru
Llamas, Inca ruins, the Andes.

9. Brazil
For the Amazon

10. Egypt
Pyramids. Duh.

T: Turtles

I just realized that I need to hurry up and finish my A-Z series before 2010 gets here! So I'll knock off a couple today.



This summer, I was out in our backyard when I found a little pit that had some eggs poking out. So of course I ran inside to get everybody. Momma and Sam came out, inspected the little pit, went back inside to do some research, and that was how we wound up with 20 little turtle eggs.

After lots of care, the baby turtles were removed from the pit (where something had obviously been bothering them--there were broken shells all over) and moved into little containers with moist dirt and put into a safe place on our back porch.

Samuel and Mom faithfully kept the dirt moist and cool for the little eggs, and the day after I left to drive back to Utah for school, they hatched! I am very sad I missed it, but they are still there (19 eggs hatched) and they are still tiny, waiting until they're big enough to survive on their own. I'm not sure what kind they are, but I have heard from a few good sources that they are quarter-sized and cute.The pit

S: School {BYU vs. Hogwarts}

I am a proud student of Brigham Young University. I love everything about it {except for American Heritage}. I love my major {Public Relations}, the beautiful campus, the amazing people, the fun classes. It is all SO GOOD!

But a small part of me {the part that read all the Harry Potter books and saw the most recent movie} can't help but want to go to Hogwarts. I just want to be magical. Can someone please make that happen? And give me an accent while you're at it? And a broom. And a pet owl. I could go one and on. I mean, really. I wouldn't mind the snow if it was like this.

S: She & Him

When it comes to {S} there is nothing I love more than She & Him. I think that they win the Artist of the Year award from me. Not a day goes by that I don't listen to them.

Quail:
Have you ever seen a quail?
I never did in Florida, but here in Utah they are everywhere.
Really.
Like I came out one morning at my first apartment complex and they were all over my car.
Like 20 of them, just sitting there.
So cute.
And then they jump off and run in a line in zig zigs and curly cues.
I have seen them all over my current neighborhood and I love it.
Here's to quails.

Quilts:
I really like quilts. They are just awesome.

Queens:
There is a queen who has a name that looks/sounds kind of like mine.
So sometimes I pretend I am her and that I have servants to pick up all my clothes and make me delicious food.
That sounds good right about now.
It also helps that she is beautiful and adorable and awesome.

P: People

This has been a new semester for me, because it is the first where I have my own room.
And while this is nice in some ways {having my own bit of space and all} I find that more often than not, I am just lonely.
There is no one that is going to come in and tiptoe to their bed late at night.
There is no one to talk to at 2:00 in the morning.
There is not a soul in sight to save me when I hear a scary noise and get a little bit frightened. There is no one to giggle with.
There is no one to argue about the laundry all over the floor with.
There is no one to fight with about who was the last one up that should turn off the light.
There is no one to just be with.

And today I discovered that I kind of like people.
Sure, maybe they annoy me sometimes, but I like having a person.
And my roommate has always been my person for me.
I need someone to be here when I'm in a bad mood.
That way, I don't just sit alone and sulk.
There is someone there to tell stupid jokes and make me forget why I was so darn cranky in the first place.
So Dawna, come back.
And come back soon.
Because I am not doing so well here on my own.

K: King Arthur

The Once and Future King, The Sword in the Stone, The Lady of Shalott, Lancelot and Guinevere...The Aurthurian legend is full of great stuff! My mom has this beautiful painting by E.B. Leighton above the piano in our living room and I love it! Most of my favorite books have King Arthur somewhere in them and almost all of my favorite artwork is inspired by him. Just lovely, isn't it?

K: Kites

Some of my best memories are of going to the park late at night with Talana and flying our $2 Barbie kite for hours. I don't think that there's a better way of getting in touch with your inner child. Plus, flying a kite over the ocean is just so darn beautiful. So I'm getting a kite this week and dragging Window Boy to the park to fly it with me (don't worry, he likes these kinds of things).
